Dune Grass Elegy
Muddled figures glide where once
you and I made a shape somewhat resembling
an early morning swan on calm water
Cold lake’s grey, crashing in winter,
songs like gravity in the reverberations
of my tiny, broken ear bones
I can hear the sandy swan, all contorted
with paper mache delicacy
seconds before light emerges,
giving January her first life
