Augusta, April
Birds chirp off course under cover of efflorescent azaleas
Unaware of the human importance unfolding on mule sculpted earth
Were these thrashers better informed, they would halt their song
Take a measure or two of rest, watch in awe
That torqued and stoic, granite scored deity of a man,
Flexed with no less grandeur than at Michaelangelo’s hand
Aptly named for a sleek, clever predator of a feline
(sometimes we can see hints of God in such mundane flourishes)
TIGER!
