Ephemera

1

A shrieking cylinder of aluminum hurtles homeward through the snow
playing with the precipitation’s crystalline fragments
interminable velocity creating in its wake a swirling, ephemeral storm
a vortex of lone flakes spurred into dancing, like colliding celestial bodies
before growing weary and settling back together, indistinguishable,
waiting eagerly the track’s next seismic rumble,
anticipating their souls’ momentary birth of motion

2

A man, quietly, inertly, jostles softly away from work
watching the wide, uniform planes of white out his portal
intermittent homes breaking the pallid monotony
with bespackled shingles, their roofs dangling teeth
he is moving through time static, gravitationally bound ahead
mechanically interred, his being contracts, dilates
as sun light flickers across his chest like a dying filament,
pulses met then missed, the halting grind of a body coming to rest
softly tilting him forward, yearning for its lost momentum
his suspended form a distant astral light
burning in our sky years after it has gone dark

3

Another man waits and is engulfed in a blast of diesel
the shriek of steel sparking iron, elemental abrasion
out steps a woman, compact and braced against the world,
all cloaked and shapeless like a priest
she glances over, flashed with recognition,
some unplaced familiarity amidst the anonymous mass
he sees it in her sapphire eyes, the shock of forgotten intimacy
they synapse together into smiles, incisive warmth in cold
and as they pass into unknown for a few steps
they jolt with shared electric pleasure
