A Letter

Dear girls playing in your front yard, waving at me as I drive by:

........I am envious of you.
You have such a marvelous climbing tree!
It’s a wonderful, tangled juniper
with plenty of thick, low hanging branches
perfectly molded for the curled body
........of a child in summer

And it ascends at such a low, accessible grade!
This will allow your brothers
or flirtatious young male friends
to showcase their skills
by climbing to death defying heights

I hope someday you will walk past
a tree similar to this
and it will send your spring heart aflutter
with the memory of hiding from your parents
straining upwards for your first kiss.
